Published Wednesday, April 30, 2008

ALEXANDRIA — Haylie Zenner broke a 25-year-old record and the 4x400 team tied a record Tuesday as the Fergus Falls Otters took second in the Alexandria Quadrangular.

Zenner broke a record set by Holly Farrar in 1983 as she won the 400 dash with a time of 58.4. Farrar’s record was 58.9.

The 4x400 relay team of Haylie and Kylie Zenner, Susie Kitzman and Sarah Erickson tied the school record of 4:08.18 set by Erin Jacobson, Heather Sjolie, Anna VanWechel and Jenny Reff in 2002.

Erickson had a monster day with individual firsts in the 100 hurdles (16.5) and the high jump (5-2) and a third place finish in the 300 hurdles (50.03).

Fergus’ 4x200 team of Kylie Zenner, Chloe Kretchman, Callie Ann Hoffbeck and Karlee Kosak posted a winning time of 1:53.4.

Kelsey Appert was runner-up in the trip jump with a 30-11 1/2 while Whitney Moore took second in the 100 dash with a 13.7 and Kitzman took second in the high jump by going 4-8.

Kosak ran a 28.46 to take third in the 200 dash. Lizzy Link was third in the 100 dash with a 13.75.

“We trained hard Monday and they girls were outstanding,” said Fergus Falls head coach Niki Welde.

The Otters scored 322.5 points. Alexandria racked up 362. Little Falls and Parkers Prairie racked up 241 and 73.5 points respectively.
