I-94 retrofitting will run past holiday

Work along the westbound lane of Interstate 94, between Evansville and Dalton, should be completed shortly after Labor Day. The work, which started July 7, was necessitated because of mid-panel cracks.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) office in Morris, the distance of 28 feet between concrete joints were found to be too long. The result was mid-panel cracking, in turn causing road faults.
“In order to restore the load transfer, dowel bars are being installed at the location of the mid-panel cracks,” said Dan Kuhn, resident engineer for the Mn DOT Morris office. “Concrete along Interstate 94 is 11 inches thick.”
Brad Cegla, chief inspector for MnDOT’s Morris office, said that between 15 and 25 employees, on a given day, work along Interstate 94 between Evansville and Dalton.
The overall goal of the project is to repair and perform rehab on the damaged concrete.
