Low bid approved for bridge removal

Published Monday, August 25, 2008

The Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners has awarded the low bid of $285,931 for the removal of a Rush Lake Township bridge on the west side of Rush Lake. The low bid came from Lakes Paving Division of Strata, Detroit Lakes.

Earlier this year the county board approved a conditional use permit for the project. The applicant was Rush Lake Township.

The bridge near Rush Lake was cited by officials as structurally deficient. Another bridge, running parallel to the older bridge, is in good condition and runs along County Highway 78.

In other action, the county board approved the low bid of $1.69 million for 7.3 miles of road work along County Highway 1 south of Fergus Falls, in Buse and Aastad townships. The low bid came from Central Specialties, Inc., Alexandria.

Included in the bid, according to County Highway Engineer Rick West, is work for aggregate base, shouldering, topsoil, asphalt paving and other projects.

This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
