Otters open with loss

BEMIDJI — The Fergus Falls volleyball team opened its 2008 campaign with a 3-0 loss to the Bemidji Lumberjacks Tuesday in Bemidji.
The Lumberjacks swept the Otters in three games, three games 25-22, 25-13 and 25-21.
“We were anchored by our lone returning starter, Whitney Moore, said Otters head coach Renee Erickson.
“We showed some spurts of really good play and showed a lot of showed spirited resilience everytime the Lumberjacks had a lead,” Erickson said.
Fergus Falls leaders were Nikki Clouse with 9 digs. Whitney Moore led the team in sets with 9 , followed by Leslie Defiel with 6.
At the serving line Mariah Monke went 13-for-13 with two aces. Clouse went 12-for-12 from the line.
“We don’t have a lot of experience and realize we have a lot of work to do, but we’re willing to do that,” Erickson said.
"We feel that the Otter volleyball team and their fans have a lot to be excited about and are looking forward to our home opener against Willmar on Thursday,” she said.
Game time is at 7 p.m.
