New LRH lot will be heavily utilized

The Cancer Care and Research Center project set to begin this fall will be constructed on an existing employee parking lot.
To provide off-street parking replacement areas, Lake Region Healthcare's Board of Trustees has announced the construction of a new 70-space parking lot on the half-block off Mill Street between Alcott and Vasa Avenues.
Parking improvements and demand of Lake Region Healthcare continue to be evaluated as part of the hospital's long range plan.
"This new lot enables us to improve parking for staff and patients and will help alleviate current parking on streets," said Steve Rufer, the hospital's Board of Trustees chair. "We are continuing to work hard at being good neighbors."
Four houses will be removed, with one of them donated to Children's Corner Learning Center for use as a day care for infants.
Mike Johnson, plant operations manager at Lake Region Hospital helped design the improved parking areas.
"This lot will be heavily utilized as it allows closer access to the hospital for employees then they had with the south parking lot," Johnson said.
"We are able to create a parking area that has beautiful landscape surrounding it, continuing to give it a neighborhood look."
The parking lot project will begin Monday and is expected to be completed by late fall.
Lake Region Healthcare Corporation is a not-for-profit, award-winning organization in Fergus Falls.
Organized in 1903, Lake Region Healthcare is currently led by a community-based 15 member volunteer board. It operates Lake Region Hospital, Bridgeway Care, Center for Rehabilitation, Lake Region Hospital Foundation, LifestyleCenter, Athletic Republic-Mehl Center, and the Mill Street Residence and is co-owner of West Central Linen.

I work at the hospital, I am just kind of wondering why we don't just build a parking garage to save time and space. We would be able to build more facilities if we used a parking garage vs. numorous parking lots. I would hope the board would take this into consideration. Thanks...

i too believe that a parking ramp would provide a safer parking environment for visiting families and staf leaving at odd hours. having grown up in a house a block from the hospital I would say that, that area lost its neighborhood look over 3 decades ago. so a safer more climate considered facility would be a vast amount of money well spent.
