Tough road ahead for the Panthers

PARKERS PRAIRIE – Mistake-free football might be hard to achieve but Scott Peterson and his Panthers intend to try this year.
The Parkers Prairie outfit was 3-5 last year against some rugged competition.
“I think that our schedule speaks for itself,” said Peterson. “We played two state-qualifying teams (KMS and Royalton), two very good 2A schools (OTC and UNC) and then there was Osakis, Pillager, New York Mills and Browerville.”
The Panthers have a big sophomore class but they are thin in the senior and junior ranks.
Seniors on the 2008 team will be Thomas Alton, Cody Uran, B.J. Revering, Anthony Schwartz, Ethan Cook, Andrew Wiebye and Tony Laudenbach.
Juniors on the Parkers squad will be Peter Lind, Charlie Bates, Arnold Thoennes, Tyler Walsh, Matt Bernu, Dan Moske and Blake LaVan.
The big sophomore class has Ryan Peppersack, Kevin Hahn, Devin Higley, Josh Martinson, Trey Thompson, Sam Betterman, Brett LaVan, Jon Weibye, Austin Samuelson, Jeremy Schwartz, Anthony Ellsworth, C.J. Jahnke, Seth Bercier and Cambell Rasmusson.
Peterson’s freshmen will be Brian Steidl, Wyat Samuelson, Michael Kalpin, Jesse Oeltjenbruns, Dexter Pomeranz, Aaron Koep, Tyler Hollatz and Chris Bunge.
“When a team loses a lot of three-year letterwinners they lose a lot of experience,” said Peterson. “The returning guys need to step up and fill the shoes of those that left. We need to get stronger as the season progresses.”
Peterson rates Otter Tail Central and United North Central as the Prairie North’s toughest two clubs. Browerville and Osakis are tabbed to field two of the strongest teams in Section 6A.
