District 544 releases its school timelines release
Published Thursday, February 14, 2008
The Fergus Falls school district on Wednesday released a timeline for preliminary construction at the secondary school, which will culminate in a formal groundbreaking June 3.
“It’s going to be a tremendous mobilization project,” Business Manager Mark Masten said of the construction effort, which kicks into high gear in May.
Up until then, architects from ATS&R will finalize the building design and provide another cost estimate to ensure the district stays within budget. Construction documents are scheduled to print May 9, and by May 12, students can expect to see some changes around the middle school.
“You’re going to start seeing many things going on before school gets out,” Masten said, like the arrival of trailers and the erection of silt fences. Classes may move from one part of the building to another as workers prepare the site for construction later on.
Potential contractors will tour the building May 19, giving them a chance to see the site before bids open May 29. The school district, Masten said, received permission from the state to dismiss for the year on May 23, the same day all construction documents must be final.
“Normally (students) would have come back after Memorial Day and had two and a half more days,” he said.
The school district will finalize bids June 2 and, with approval from the school board that evening, will break ground the next day.
When school resumes in the fall, district students will be housed in the following locations:
• McKinley: Preschool and kindergarten
• Adams: Grades 1-2
• Cleveland: Grades 3-5
vEisenhower: Grade 6
• High school “C” wing: Grade 7
• High school “C” wing: Grade 8
• High school: Grades 9-12
Note: Students in grades 6-8 may utilize the middle school gym.
As a recent letter to district parents explains, the school district is using the relocations to move the project along faster and ultimately save money. The target completion date is August 2009.

This headline is klutzy, or it is a typo.

Is anyone else wondering??? How all this running around, Is going to save any money.I was with the understanding, that the Eisenhower school was unfit for school use? We were told five years ago that it was unfit, and again last year, (to expense to run). Thats why the kindergardens were put into different schools. How much money is it going to take to make the Eisenhower school suitable for six grade use when its set up for five and under.(computer labs, playground equipment, gym, etc).
I really feel bad for the six graders next year, and there
parents, and the groups like ECFE and the others that are already there that will have to move again when they had the understanding that they had the school for their use.
But I guess the school district will do what they please, and the disrict parents and kids WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY??????? So you tell me how much time and money are we REALLY going to save??????

Take out the apostrophe in "its", take off the "s" in "timeline", and take out the second "release", and you'll have a decent headline. Decent being the operative word.

7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Middle School Auditorium is a public forum so people can learn more. Nice to see drawings. Remodeling a building is a huge project and glad they are clearing it out for students' safety as they work.

The school board and adminstration are just making it up as they go. They have no idea what going on today or tomorrow.
They are an embarrasment.

Instead of slinging insults like "making it up as they go" why don't you put your money where your mouth is and show up at the public forum on the 28th?
Better yet... run for a spot on the school board. Maybe you can make a difference there, huh?

isn't Fergus cutting a bunch of teachers? And 7th graders in the same building as seniors? WOW! What a shame.

The seniors couldn't care less about a bunch of seventh graders. I just think it's sad that the middle school kids are being tossed around so much. So many of my sons' friends are going to Underwood next year because of this. I'm sure the end result will be great, but my kids will never enjoy the final outcome because they are too old.
