Home destroyed in Elbow Lake fire
Published Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Three individuals escaped unharmed Monday afternoon from a fire that destroyed the Jeff McSorley residence north of Elbow Lake on Highway 59. The fire started in the chimney, Grant County Sheriff Dwight Walvatne said.
One adult female and two teens were in the house when the fire started. They saw smoke coming from the wall near the stove pipe, Walvatne said.
“They were able to get out and call for help,” Elbow Lake Fire Chief Robert Gehrke said.
Ashby and Wendell fire departments were called in to assist.
“We were there about four, four and a half hours,” Gehrke said.
Besides battling the fire, firefighters also fought ground drifting, wind and cold. The Grant County Salvation Army brought food to the scene for the firemen. The Red Cross was notified.
The Elbow Lake Fire Department and Grant County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the incident, according to Walvatne.
