Fergus Falls attorney named Young Careerist

Katrina Wass, a native of Underwood and a partner attorney with Pemberton, Sorlie, Rufer and Kershner Law Firm in Fergus Falls, was named the 2008 local Virginia Allan Young Careerist.

The competion, sponsored by the local chapter of Fergus Falls Business and Professional Women, recognizes oustanding young women just beginning to work in their careers.

Among the criteria Wass successfully met for the honor included personal accomplishments, expressing throughts and beliefs and future goals, personal interview, a speech presentation and demonstrated effort to help others achieve.

Wass grew up on her family’s farm on Pleasant Lake near Underwood and received her bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, graduating summa cum laude in 2000 before moving to Kansas City, Mo., where she received her Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Missouri in 2003, and was president of her graduating class.

She received the Truman Award for leadership from the University of Missouri Law School and was nominated to the Order of the Barrister's. Since commencing her law practice She has twice been named a Rising Star by “Minnesota Law & Politics” magazine.

She is licensed to practice in state court of Minnesota and the federal courts of Minnesota and North Dakota. She is also an attorney for the Legal Aid Society of North Western Minnesota.

Her practice areas include personal injury litigation, school law, employment law and family law.

She is member of Kiwanis and the American Association of University Women, to name a couple.

BPW will also honor a Woman of the Year and a large and small Business of the Year during a banquet scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Bigwood Events Center. Tickets are $20 and should be purchased in advance by Friday, Jan. 18, from any BPW member. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Also planned Jan. 28, will be a drawing for the diamond solitaire earrings. Tickets are $10, and proceeds will benefit local scholarships.
