Jody Klimek, pharmacist at Trumm Drug, Elbow Lake, is among the 10 employees who takes part in Blue Jeans Friday to collect money for charities and community projects.
Businesses in downtown Elbow Lake want to do their part in being active members of the community. An example is Trumm Drug which has in place Blue Jeans Friday — a way to help fund worthy causes.
On any given Friday, an employees who wears jeans to work drops $1 in the bucket. Others do the same, and when a certain dollar amount is reached, the Trumm Drug chain matches the amount and money is earmarked for a local project.
“Last year we gave a substantial amount of money for the Elbow Lake Public Library addition,” Trumm Drug store manager and Chamber of Commerce Vice President Gordy Lund said. “Our 10 employees have a great deal of satisfaction knowing they’re doing something good for our community.”
Pharmacist Jody Klimek, who has been at Trumm Drug a year and a half and who commutes to Elbow Lake from Brandon, said she was excited to join in the Blue Jeans Friday program.
“Every now and then one of our employees has an idea on how best to spend the money,” Klimek said. “That suggestion sparks other ideas. We talk things over and then take a vote.”
Klimek said that no matter who they help, workers who take part in Blue Jeans Friday feel good about what they do.
Blue Jeans Friday also is popular at the other Trumm facility in Elbow Lake — part of ELEAH Medical Center — the three Trumm Drug facilities in Alexandria, and Trumm Drug stores in Glenwood and Parkers Prairie.
Employees at Trumm Drug also are aware of the new Thrift Store opening in Elbow Lake today that also will benefit the needs of local and area residents.
The store is called Bargain Bazaar and includes clothing, miscellaneous items, a kitchen room, book room, children’s room (with clothes and toys) and an up-scale room.
“Our employees — and customers — here at Trumm Drug have no shortage of organizations and programs in which to become involved with here in Elbow Lake,” Lund said. “We’re proud to have Blue Jeans Friday as part of the mix.”
