Minnesota Lynx honor Battlers girls basketball team

The Minnesota Lynx professional women’s basketball organization is honoring the Battle Lake High School girls basketball team with one of eight “Lynx Team of the Week” awards.
This is the seventh consecutive week that the Lynx have recognized one girls team and one boys team in each of the state’s four classes. The program will continue every week throughout the high school regular season. The latest awards — honoring Battle Lake and the other seven teams — includes results through Jan. 17.
Battle Lake is the Class A Lynx Girls Team of the Week after posting a 3-0 record. The Lady Battlers remained unbeaten with wins over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy (52-23) on Jan. 11, Eagle Valley (65-31) on Jan. 12 and Henning (83-50) on Jan. 15.
On Jan. 18 the Battlers defeated Rothsay 78-40 and on Tuesday evening Battle Lake defeated Underwood 34-31 to remain unbeaten at 15-0. Through last week the Lady Battlers held opponents to just 43.1 points a game, with an average margin of victory 21.0 points.
Battle Lake leads the Little Eight Conference. In second place is Ashby which suffered its only loss to the Battlers by a score of 63-47 on Jan. 4. The two teams meet again on Feb. 14.
Head coach for the Lady Battlers is David Marso who is assisted by Mike Scholten and Steve Bradsteen. Teams members include Heidi Duncan, Kelsey Koep, Chelsea Colton, Abbey Evavold, Erin Herbranson, Taylor Lundquist, Lindsay Nelson, Carley Nelson, Brittany Bleichner, Kristin Boyum, Kristen Colton and Raven Larson.
