Snowmobile crash kills Henning man

Published Monday, January 28, 2008

An Otter Tail County man died Friday after a snowmobile accident near Crosslake in Crow Wing County.

According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Department, Mark Allen Shaw, 33, Henning, was driving a snowmobile around 11 p.m. Friday when he crashed into some trees on the south shore of Big Pine Lake.

Shaw died at the scene.

Shaw was one of two Minnesota snowmobilers killed this weekend.

A 25-year-old woman died around 1 p.m. Sunday after she struck a tree just off the Arrowhead Snowmobile Trail in St. Louis County.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources shares the following safety tips that could help snowmobilers save a life on Minnesota trails.

• Never consume alcohol or drugs before or during snowmobile operation.

• Slow down.

• Carry a first-aid kit, flashlight, knife, compass, map, and waterproof matches.

• Stay on marked trails or, where allowed, on the right shoulder of the road.

This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
