John Lindquist of rural Dalton filed today for the Third District county commission position held by Dennis Mosher who plans to retire from the board. District 3 includes several townships in southwestern Otter Tail County, including a section of southeastern Fergus Falls, as well as the eastern portion of Rothsay.
“I’ve always been interested in county government,” he said, “but in previous years, while running both a dairy and grain farm, participation wasn’t possible. Now, after retiring from the dairy business in 2007, I have the time available to be part of county government.”
He is a 1965 graduate of Underwood High School. Lindquist attended MSCTC, Fergus Falls, and earned a bachelor of science degree in animal science at North Dakota State University, Fargo.
At NDSU, Lindquist played football and was assistant coach in 1970. In 1974, he served as head football coach at MSCTC, Fergus Falls.
The couple purchased their dairy and grain farm near Dalton in 1972. They still operate the grain farm.
Today is the first day of filing for candidates for the Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners. As of 9 a.m. three candidates had filed. The final day for filing is July 15.
Filing for District 5, for a position held by Robert Block who also plans to retire, were W. Rick Wilson and James R. Ayres.
Commission chairperson Sydney Nelson, District 1, is also retiring. His district includes townships in northeastern Otter Tail County, in the Perham area.
