Relay walkers awesome
Published Tuesday, July 1, 2008
Though the rain and the reduced donations from previous years was unfortunate, those who participated in the Relay for Life in Fergus Falls last weekend should feel proud of their accomplishment of raising more than $100,000 locally for cancer research.
According to the most recent statistics, cancer trails only heart disease as the leading cause of death in the United States. It is unlikely that anyone has not been close to someone — family, friends, colleagues — who has died from, or is still living with cancer.
Continuing to provide funding for research is the only way more effective treatments — and one day, a cure — will be found.
While the economy might have slowed donations this year, the downturn is only temporary. It is important that the Relay for Life remain strong in our community, and that the donations for cancer research continue to come in.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
