Ashby’s parade set for Thursday

Published Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Ashby’s 10th Annual Red, White and Blue Parade will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 3. The parade will start at the Ashby Fire hall and head east on main street and continue down two other streets and end at Thorson-Larson Park.

A community picnic will be in the park at the end of the parade which will be free-will offering to help offset the picnic expenses.

Children of all ages are invited to participate and come dressed in red, white and blue. Parents are encouraged to help them decorate their bikes, wagons and strollers.

”This parade is all about the kids in the community,” City Clerk Val Martin said. “It started with 14 kids at Benson’s Daycare in Ashby.”

Other day cares, along with the Early Childhood/Family Education program, were invited to participate.  Approximately 150 children are expected in this year’s parade, along with their parents.

Kids of all ages are invited to participate in the parade and picnic. If you are interested in participating in the parade, be at the Ashby fire hall by 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Anyone is invited to attend and participate in the parade. The committee is expecting to feed 300 to 400 people at this year’s event.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
