Media coverage of OJ is disappointing to reader
Published Saturday, July 5, 2008
Is there such a lack of newsworthy events in this area that you put a picture of a knife-weilding murderer on the front page?
Oh, I know, that he was acquitted in criminal court, just because he could stiffen up his hand so a snug glove wouldn’t go on easily, but the civil court held him liable in the death of his wife and her friend.
You are not alone, of course, as Fargo plastered him in the paper and on local TV.
It is disappointing that the media in this area shows so little class.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by holymoly (anonymous) on July 5, 2008 at 3:59 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I don't understand this argument that this was not a newsworthy event. OJ Simpson, for better or for worse, is a huge name. Him being in the area is newsworthy. If Michael Jordan, Bill Clinton, or Paris Hilton were in town those would be covered by the newspaper and I don't think anyone would complain. I use these three names because we know all three of these celebrities have had their own "encounters" with the law. Given they have not been as horrific as OJ's. I guess the point I am trying to make is that these lawbreakers are celebrities and therefore, regardless of what they have down, their presence in small town Minnesota is newsworthy. Just my thoughts.

Maybe people should start getting upset with the Prody family for bringing OJ here instead of with the DJ for writing about it?

You remove my comment - which is funny... And don't remove the obviously racist one right below it.

I thought OJ was suppose to be in jail at that time he was here anyway? For yet another crime he is involved with. HMMM, makes you wonder how he got out, maybe bail money from the Prody family? Just an assumption is all. I'm not pointing any fingers.
This man may be a celebrity, but a celebraty not of fame, but of misbehaved, disgusting behavior.
