What's on your mind? You've always had a yen to paint but you don't know how to get started? You like to write but who will you get to read it? You have some legal questions but where do you get answers? You would like to take a trip but you wonder where you should go? You think maybe your hearing aids need cleaning but you are not sure how to do it? Keep reading. We can help you.

Let's start with the painting. On Wednesday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Barb Smith will be at the Senior Center to help you get started as an artist. All supplies will be furnished.

At the end of the class, you will have actually completed an oil painting to take home with you.

It would probably be a good idea to wear old clothes or an apron for the class. The cost, which includes instruction and materials, is $26. Registration and payment are due in the Senior office by July 15.

Now, for you writers. The GOLDEN PAGE is a little publication written for senior citizens by senior citizens. We are now gathering material for the July issue. Whether your choice is poetry, prose, essay, story, history or limerick, bring it to the Senior Center before July 21.

As we get older, we often have questions about wills, trusts, estate planning or other legal issues. Attorney Jamison (Jay) Cichosz offers a free consultation. Call 736-6842 to make an appointment for July 23.

If you are looking for an opportunity to take a delighful trip with other senior citizens, consider Aug. 5, when we visit the Terry Redlin Museum in Watertown, S.D. Original oil paintings of wildlife artist Terry Redlin will be on display as well as a traveling exhibit of Norman Rockwell paintings. Cost is $25 for members, $30 non-members. Register and pay by July 22.

Before you take the trip, you may wish to check out your hearing aids. John Armstrong will be available at the Senior Center for an ear wax check and hearing aid cleaning on July 9, at 10:30 a.m. at no cost, but be sure to make an appointment. (736-6842)

Incidentally, the Red Hat gals are having a potluck picnic in Roosevelt Park at 5:00 on July 14. Register in the Senior office if you plan to attend. These are the ladies who believe that "Aging is inevitable, getting old is optional and fun is mandatory."

Also on the 14th, Terri Reutter, licensed social worker, is presenting a seminar, "Eldest Daughter Moving Service." This senior move management company specializes in assisting older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects of relocation. That's at 11:30 a.m.

Finally, just remember that, "You can’t change the past but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future."

Comments

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
