Rothsay, Pelican communities celebrate 125th

Published Wednesday, July 9, 2008

This coming weekend will be special for Pelican Rapids and Rothsay. Each community is holding its 125th anniversary celebration.

In Pelican Rapids the anniversary is being combined with the annual Turkey Fest. Rothsay residents are including an all-school reunion with their 125th anniversary celebration. Volunteers in both communities have been hard at work for several months.

In Pelican Rapids the annual Rotary Turkey BBQ will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Peterson Park near the suspension bridge. The 12th anniversary Grand Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In Rothsay, many exciting opportunities for fun and reminiscing with friends and family are being planned. Volunteers always are needed. People who want to help with planning or event coordination can contact any member of the planning committee.

For more information contact Shane Balken at 218-867-2748 or Julie Brenden at 218-867-2490.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
