Three file for 10B seat
Published Thursday, July 10, 2008
Three candidates have filed for the Minnesota House District 10B seat being vacated by Dean Simpson of Perham. Simpson, a Republican, announced June 10 that he has decided to step down, after serving three terms.
Two DFLers have filed. They include Tim Nieminen and Janine Hudson, both from Wadena. The Republican candidate is Al Hanson of Ottertail.
District 10B includes 28 townships in eastern Otter Tail County, 15 townships in Wadena County and six townships in Becker County.
The Minnesota House of Representatives includes 134 members, with each representing approximately 32,650 constituents. Members are elected to a two-year term.
The House is led by the speaker of the House, a position widely accepted as the second-most powerful in Minnesota state government behind the governor. The speaker is elected by a majority of members at the beginning of each legislative session.
The speaker appoints committee chairs and vice chairs, and names members of both parties to committees. The speaker also presides over House floor sessions, refers introduced legislation to standing committees and appoints conference committee member.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by positivelyperham (anonymous) on July 10, 2008 at 3:17 p.m. (Suggest removal)
