County board primary scheduled for Sept. 9

Otters Tail County residents in District 3 and District 5, in the Sept. 9 primary election, will narrow the field of county commission candidates to two in each district. Three candidates have filed for the District 3 seat and four candidates filed for District 5. The filing deadline was Tuesday.

No primary will be needed in District 1, where Douglas Huebsch of Perham and Douglas Ackling of Frazee will face each other in the Nov. 4 general election. One of those candidates will assume the post being vacated by county commission chairperson Sydney Nelson who is retiring from the board.

The District 3 seat is being vacated by Dennis Mosher. Candidates for the primary election are John Lindquist, Dalton; Rick Gronner, Underwood; and Tom Lee, Elizabeth.

The District 5 seat, which includes most of Fergus Falls, will be open at year’s end due to the retirement of Commissioner Robert Block. Candidates for the Sept. 9 primary election are Rick Wilson, James Ayres, Tedd Steenbock and Lee Rogness.

The two finalists in District 3 and two finalists in District 5 will meet in the Nov. 4 general election.

District 1 includes the northeastern Otter Tail County townships of Blowers, Butler, Corliss, Dead Lake, Edna, Gorman, Hobart, Homestead, Newton, Paddock, Perham, Pine Lake and Rush Lake. Also included are the cities of Dent, New York Mills, Perham and Richville.

District 3 includes the townships of Aastad, Buse, Carlisle, Clitherall, Dane Prairie, Eagle Lake, Everts, Fergus Falls, Leaf Mountain, Orwell, Oscar, St. Olaf, Sverdrup, Tordenskjold, Trondhjem, Tumuli & Western. Also in the district are the cities of Battle Lake, Dalton, Rothsay, Underwood and Fergus Falls Ward 1, Precinct 2.

District 5 includes the city of Fergus Falls excluding Ward 1 Precinct 2.
