The Cormorant Area Fine Art Show, held July 12 and 13 at the Cormorant Community Center, was viewed by more than 550 people from across the United States.

Twenty fine art artists exhibited their oils, encaustic, watercolors and acrylic paintings. In addition, an artist displayed and demonstrated her pine needle basketry and another exhibited her Norwegian Rosemaling. The artists represented communities from West Fargo to Detroit Lakes and south to Pelican Rapids.

Award winners were Jacqueline J. Anderson of Moorhead, who received the Gold Award and the People’s Choice Award for Sapling Shadows, an acrylic painting.

The Silver Award went to Jeri Thilmony, Detroit Lakes, for her watercolor, Days End; and the Bronze Award went to Barbara Dalen, Oxbow, N.D., for a watercolor titled Winter Roses.

Proceeds from art sales benefit the Cormorant Community Center and are used to provide workshops to members and new artists.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
