Hurricanes slip by Lakers

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth Sunday to defeat Pelican Rapids 4-2 in the Countryside League playoffs.
Matt Brekke’s groundout scored Fergus’ first run in the eighth. Alex Conboy then tripled in Kellen Shebeck and Jarrod Asmus.
Conboy and Dusty Christenson both collected a pair of hits for Fergus. Cole Anderson and Ryan Mason came up with two hits for Pelican Rapids.
Dave Johnson notched the win in relief of Casey Bovkoon. Adam Johnson was hung with the loss.

Garrett Dahlgren and Jake Stoll combined scattered 10 hits as Vergas upset Fergus Falls.
Dahlgren fanned six and walked one in winning his mound duel with Casey Kowalski. The Fergus ace also worked into the eight, fanning nine and allowing four walks. Kellen Shebeck finished up.
The Hurricanes left 13 runners aboard while the Loons left 10. The Hurricanes left the bases loaded in the first, fourth and eighth innings.
The Loons broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth when Steve Branby singled in A.J. Bunkowske with two down.
Dahlgren and Jake Bachman came up with two hits apiece. Mike Gaustad was 3-for-5 in the loss. Kellen Shebeck and Ben Brimhall both collected two hits.
Fergus Falls will host Pelican Rapids Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Vergas will tangle with No. 1 Dent Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
