FF man hits squad car on Interstate

Deputy was assisting trooper at time of crash

Published Monday, July 21, 2008

A Fergus Falls man was injured early this morning when his car rear-ended an unoccupied Clay County Sheriff’s Department SUV along Interstate 94 near Moorhead.

The State Patrol said 26-year-old Justin Anderson was driving west along I-94 at 2:41 a.m. today when he crashed into the empty sheriff’s SUV, a 2008 Ford Explorer. Anderson was taken to a Fargo hospital with minor injuries.

Lt. Steve Todd of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department was assisting a state trooper at a nearby crash when his vehicle was hit.

Todd and the trooper were investigating a previous accident in which the driver of a 2002 Dodge Dakota swerved to avoid hitting a deer and hit a bridge rail. This, in turn, blocked the west-bound lane of traffic. The driver of the vehicle in that accident was Matthew Guck, 18, of Plymouth.

Four hours earlier a motorcycle driver along Highway 34 east of Barnesville was injured when hitting a deer. This mishap took place at 10:21 p.m. Sunday. The motorcycle driver, Michael Metzler, 46, of Staples, received minor injuries.

Metzler was driving a 1982 Honda Road-Start.
