Squad car damaged in accident
Published Friday, June 6, 2008
A Fergus Falls police car sustained approximately $4,000 worth of damage while attempting to make a routine traffic stop last week.
According to police, an officer was making a U-turn near Fir and Broadway when his vehicle was struck on its left side.
The officer had apparently moved from the inner lane to the outer lane to make the wide turn.
The driver of a vehicle behind the patrol car believed the officer was pulling over to the outer shoulder and continued forward, hitting the car.
The department plans to have the damage repaired.

Sounds like a failure to signal by the officer and illegal u-turn.

In Farmington MN a county deputy made a simmilar maneuver and a motorcylclist ended up being cut-off, the resulting collision killed the motorcylce rider, and the deputy got some community service, along with the pink-slip.
Is it really THAT important to tag someone for going 1-4 MPH over the limit in Fergus Falls?

Well who knows exactlly why the officer was going to do the stop. But yes I do feel it is important to pull over those who are speeding in Fergus Falls I live on Stanton Ave by the old Dairy Plant, the stretch is only a block long and people gun it to get to 30+ miles an hour in that short for what reason. I due believe that is a residential area and there are kids present, so yes lets let people speeding on the streets of Fergus and have a child hit because that person couldn't stop in time due to their speed and the child is seriously injured.

1-4 mph over the limit! Are you serious? Or just being sarcastic? I'm guessing you are being sarcastic because I cant believe anyone would actually think they would be pulled over for 4 mph over the limit and I would challenge you to produce the ticket. I do agree that the police need to be cautious in their duties however.
What about the driver behind? Was he tailgating or inattentive? What if the cops had their red lights on, dont they get the right of way?
Either way at least no one was hurt.

Are you suggesting ranger, that the ffpd does not ever tag drivers going 1-4 miles per hour over the posted limit for a ROUTINE traffic stop?

Perhaps not THIS TIME, but the taxpayers now have additional $4,000.00 in unnecessary expenses to cover for roscoe p coletrain's actions.

Wow...so that's where he went. I've been wondering for years where Roscoe ended up. Fergus Falls? Now that's something. I want his autograph. He was one of my favorites.

I agree with ranger. We all know that people do not get tickets for 1-4 mph over the speed limit. Where did that even come from?
What this article is about was an accident. That is why they call them accidents. It happens to everyone.
It is sad to think that people in our community judge our Police the way they do. You people just sit around and critique them all day. They are people just like you and they will make mistakes.
Norse, The city has insurance on their vehicles. They will not have to pay $4000 out of pocket. They will have to pay a deductible.
