Keep your eye on the calendar for the next two weeks or you may miss one of the many scheduled activities coming up at the Senior Center.

Starting with next week — A reminder that Ladies Pool with Diane continues at 10 a.m. on Mondays at the Center.

On Tuesday, we have "Vicki Jo Sings" at 11:15 a.m. before the noon meal featuring chicken breast. As always, be sure to make a reservation a day in advance for the noon meal.

On Thursday, the 12th, from 5 to 7 p.m., we have the first Concert in the Park for the summer. The Underwood Lions are again providing those wonderful pork chops to help raise funds for the Senior Program. Bring a friend and join us in Roosevelt Park. Music will be furnished by "Island Time."

The following week, on Monday, the 16th, Kathy Sporre, Program Supervisor at the Senior Center, will present a seminar at 11 a.m. titled, "Watch Out! It's Time to Stop Driving." This seminar is described as a light-hearted approach to the serious subject of senior driving.

Come help celebrate birthdays of our members born in June at 11:30 a.m. on June 19. Stay for the meatball noon meal afterward.

Attorney Jamison (Jay) Cichosz will be visiting the Senior Center on Wednesday, June 25. Appointments for free consultations with him are being scheduled now. If you have questions pertaining to wills, trusts, estate planning, elder law or other legal issues, call 736-6842 for an appointment.

For those of you who like to plan ahead, you may wish to take note of Monday, the 23rd at 11 a.m., when Paul and Eunice Fjestad will present a slide show of their trip to Norway.

Summer is a great time of the year but it is sometimes marred by such little things as mosquitoes and ticks. For what it is worth, I'll pass on information on tick removal which I recently received in an e-mail. The writer insists that it works "every time."

"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball, cover the tick with the soap soaked cotton ball and swab it for 15 to 20 seconds. The tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away."

I haven't tried this myselt because (fortunately) I haven't encountered a tick this year but the method sounds logical and it seems to be a comparatively simple procedure.

Finally, a request from our quilters. They would appreciate donations of yarn to be used for tying quilts. If you have some that you wish to donate, drop it off at the Senior Center, 115 Lincoln Avenue West.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
