Library puppets get new stage

A new feature at the Fergus Falls Public Library is giving youngsters something to talk about. The library unveiled its new puppet theater today, built by Friends of the Library board member, Sara Thronsedt and her husband, David.
The Thronsedts decided to take on the mini construction project after learning that the library’s older version was on the verge of collapse.
“It was just a special project, we’re both retired,” Sara Thronsedt said.
The theater construction project was a first for the Thronsedts, who considered the project an extension of their favorite hobbies. Sara took hold of the decorative aspects of the project, while David worked on the carpentry.
They started planning for the project in December and, after months of building and painting, were able to finish the project in time for the busy summer library season.
The theater has a castle theme, with decorations that resemble a turret and a draw bridge. Stenciled vines and a crown also line the outside of the theater.
The structure was built with little kids in mind. They altered the design from the previous theater to include a lower bench and viewing area. This way, even the smallest of kids will be able to see the screen without straining their necks, David Thronsedt said.
Today’s 10 a.m. unveiling was followed by a preschool story time and snack session.
