Pies needed for July 4 bake-off at museum:
The Otter Tail County Historical Society needs pies. As part of the Society's Old-Fashioned 4th of July Festival, a pie bake-off is planned to determine the area's best pies.
Bring your pie to the museum by 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 4, and volunteers will help you register it for the contest.
Only fruit pies will be accepted, no egg or dairy fillings or meringue toppings. Pies must be cooled and baked in an aluminum pan.
Please include the recipe with your entry.
All pies will be cut and served during the afternoon festivities with awards going to first, second, third places, as well as an honorable mention.
The first place pie will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Lakeside dance club plans dance:
The Lakeside Dance Club will hold the second dance of the 25th summer season on from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood, featuring the traditional ballroom music of Don Riggs Big Band.
Prospective members and guests are welcome to attend. Dance attire is typically "semi-formal."

‘Bridges’workshop set:
Professionals working with low-income families are invited to attend “Framework for Bridges out of Poverty,” from 8:15 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 25, at Arvig Communications in Perham.
Bridges Certified trainer, Cindy Pic will give the presentation. Continental breakfast and lunch is provided. Cost $20, which includes the workbook and lunch.
The worshop is sponsored by United Way of Otter Tail County.
Pic will teach participants the unspoken rules of poverty, examples of language registers and behaviors and key tactics to assist in transition from welfare to work.

Class of ‘88 plans 20th reunion:
The Fergus Falls Class of 1988 will hold its 20th reunion Saturday, July 19, and will include a family picnic at Broadway Park from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The evening events begin at 5:30 p.m. at Putter’s Bar and Grill at Pebble Lake Golf Course.

Firearms safety class offered in Fergus Falls:
A firearms safety class will begin Monday and Thursday evenings beginning July 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., for youth 12 years of age by July 1 at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center.
Parents are encouraged to attend the classes with their students.
Five classroom sessions are planned, with an additional mandatory range activity scheduled.
Other individiuals interested in firearms safety certificiation are also encouraged to enroll. Class size is limited to 50 students. Cost is $12.50 and due at the time of registration.

55+ Driver Improvement offered:
The Minnesota Highway Safety Center will be offering a 55+ Driver Improvement Course June 25 and 26 — (eight-hour full course), 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Lutheran Island Camp in Henning
The Driver Improvement course is open to the public; however, pre-registration is requested. A Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center certified instructor teaches this class.
The fee for the four-hour refresher course is $20. For more information or to register call toll free 1-(888)-234-1294.
Persons age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a ten percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law.
Balmoral plans Rally for a Cure:
Registration for the Balmoral Ladies League seventh annual Rally for
the Cure Golf Tournament for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is now taking place. The fund-raising event is scheduled Monday, Aug. 4, at Balmoral Golf Course.
