Flags attract lots of interest in Fergus Falls
Published Tuesday, June 24, 2008
The story in the Saturday, May 22, 2008, Daily Journal about the veterans Walk of Flags, Inc., created lots of interest and questions in the community about the organization. A couple of the most-frequently asked questions are: What kind of an organization is it?, and who is on the board of directors?
The organization is a 501(c) 3 non profit with the purpose of selling and displaying flags to honor all military veterans, living or deceased.
The organization has a nine-member board to oversee the operation, buy and sell flags and keep all the equipment in working order.
At the present time, the board includes Perrie Sheldon, CEO; Bert Hoffman, president; Elias Larson, vice president; Mary Morris, treasurer; Noble Hatling, secretary; and board members Stan Quam, Bob Gadow, Dorothy Moen and Mary Ellen Solley.
Volunteers set out about 1,415 flags on Flag Day, June 14.
This large project would not be done if it were not for the 40-plus volunteers that show up early holiday mornings to put up the flags and remove them in late afternoon. Many thanks for any information on the organization or to volunteer, call 736-3848.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by j_g4ever (anonymous) on June 25, 2008 at 4:22 p.m. (Suggest removal)
