Andrew McDaniel scored a game-high 28 points to lead Parkers Prairie to a 78-75 victory over Hillcrest Friday for the Little Eight Conference title.
All five Comet starters were in double figures led by Cody Aasness with 19 points, Jared Schultz with 17, Joey Battillo with 16, Josh Forland with 13, and Tim Erickson with 10. Erickson led the team with six rebounds. The starters were the only scorers for the Comets.
Tom Alton scored 21 points and hauled in 11 boards for a double-double as Kellen Noga added 16 points for the Panthers.
The Panthers out-rebounded the Comets 27-19.
Both teams shot extremely well as the Panthers shot 65 percent from the field and the Comets put up 53 percent.
The Comets were in foul trouble early in the second half which created 19 of 27 from the line for the Panthers. The Comets struggled to get to the free throw line making 8 of 10.
There were 16 treys in the contest.
“Both teams really executed well offensively,” commented Comets head coach Gregg Preston. “I thought the difference was the rebounding. They went to the glass harder than we did.”
The Comets move to 17-5 as they host Park Christian Monday night at the Student Activities Center on the Hillcrest campus.
