Pemberton in top 100 attorneys:
Widely read publications, “Minnesota Law and Politics,” and “Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine,” have once again included Fergus Falls attorney Richard Pemberton in their publication listing Minnesota's Top 100 Super Lawyers. Together with the listing, the standards for achieving the top 100 were listed.
Law & Politics strictly adheres to a rigorous selection process directed at casting as wide a net as possible, evaluating quality in the most objective possible terms and verifying and validating all data. The only way a lawyer can be listed in Super Lawyers magazines is through this selection process.
The determination of whether a lawyer will be placed on the Super Lawyers list is independent of advertising or any other payments.
“No other legal publisher identifies qualified candidates by using a multi-step evaluation process that incorporates peer recognition and professional achievement.”
The determination is based upon invitations to 16,000 Minnesota lawyers to participate in the balloting process to nominate the best attorneys they've personally observed in action. Lawyers were not allowed to vote for themselves.
In addition to the peer review, Law & Politics reviewed national and local periodicals, legal trade journals, professional data bases, online sources and conducted in-person and telephone meetings with law firms. Only 5 percent of the total lawyers in Minnesota are listed at all and the top 100 are chosen from the 5 percent list.
Pemberton is senior partner of the 18-lawyer Fergus Falls law firm, Pemberton, Sorlie, Rufer and Kershner, with offices in Fergus Falls, Alexandria, Detroit Lakes and Wadena plus neighboring cities.
Pemberton was the only lawyer listed in the top 100 from greater Minnesota. The other 99 were from the Twin Cities metropolitan area with the addition of one lawyer from Duluth. Pemberton receives similar recognition by having been accorded Fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates and “Best Lawyers in America.”

Area Optometrists attend annual meeting:
Several area optometrists attended the Minnesota Optometric Association (MOA) annual meeting, January 31 through Feb. 2, at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. Local doctors who participated in the meeting were Dr. Denise M. Hanson and Dr. Tara A. Kempfer, who practice at Fergus Falls Vision Care, located at 210 N Cascade.
The MOA annual meeting is an anticipated event that addresses the practice of optometry from many perspectives. The 2008 MOA Annual Meeting was an opportunity for more than 250 optometrists to network with peers statewide and attend continuing education classes as well as participate in policy, recognize peers at the annual awards banquet and learn of outreach programs.
Continuing education in technological advances, biological research and clinical care included Biological Ocular Effects, The Tear Free Infant Examination, and an Update on Amblyopia, as well as an Update on Macular Degeneration, and Diabetic Retinopathy.
At the business meeting, elections were held for officers, and members learned of advances in optometry from the national (American Optometric Association) perspective and in Minnesota.
Participants also had ample opportunity between meetings and classes to review state-of-the- art ocular equipment, technology and advances in contact lenses.
