Assault charges pending:

Kyle Thomas Peterson, 24, Fergus Falls, was arrested around 10:18 p.m. Sunday and charged with fifth degree domestic assault; fifth degree assault; obstruction the legal process and fifth degree controlled substance sale for allegedly selling marijuana.

Peterson allegedly pushed an individual down the stairs and punched another in the face causing a cut above the eye, according to Fergus Falls Police Department.

Ice, wind contribute to accident:

Benjamin Andrew Keil, 26, Dent, was northbound on County Highway 1 north of Eldorado Beach Road near Amor around 11:50 a.m. Friday when his 2002 Ford pickup began to fishtail. Keil tried to correct it, according to Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department, but realized he was going into the ditch.

The roadway was very icy and there were heavy crosswinds. The vehicle went into the ditch and rolled onto its top. It appears from the damage to the back of the vehicle that it went into the ditch backwards.

Keil sustained a cut to his left hand. He was wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle was totaled.

Small fire in chimney:

Pelican Rapids and Vergas fire departments responded to a small chimney fire on Frieda Drive on Little Pelican Lake, rural Detroit Lakes shortly after midnight today.

Part of a wall behind a fireplace had to be removed to extinguish the fire.

There was no other damage.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
