Huskies oust Knights

ST. CLOUD — The good defense that brought the West Central Area Knights to the threshold of the a state tournament berth was lacking Friday night at St. Cloud State.
Four Albany players scored in double figures as the Huskies topped West Central Area 77-42 in the Section 6AA girls’ basketball title game at Halenbeck Hall.
Taylor Voss led the Huskies with 25 points while Jennie Noreen scored 16, Hannah Hylla canned 14 and Sam Larsen netted 11.
Laura Huebner was the only WCA player in double figures with 14 points. Krystal Lacey scored nine. Liza Torgerson and Taylor Brekke, who ranked as WCA’s top two scorers, combined for just 10 points.
The Knights shot 28.3 percent from the field and had eight shots blocked. The Huskies shot 56 percent from the floor and did not have a single shot blocked.
“We missed some shots early on and they capitalized,” said WCA head coach Pat Anderson.
Voss grabbed 12 rebounds and Hylla collected 10 as the Huskies dominated the boards 42-30. Lacey pulled down nine rebounds for the Knights.
Noreen had seven of Albany’s 25 assists. DeLaine Ronhovde dished out five of West Central Area’s 11 assists.
The Huskies, who were ranked second in Class AA in the final state prep poll of the regular season, now advance to the Class AA state tournament in Minneapolis Wednesday through Saturday against the Section 7AA champ.
Pat Anderson’s Knights closed out the season with a 21-7 record. They qualified for Friday’s championship game by trouncing Minnewaska, the No. 1-ranked team in their half of Section 6AA 53-28.
