Fergus house broken into:

A house on the 500 block of West Lincoln was broken into some time while the owner was away on vacation. It was reported to Fergus Falls Police around 12:15 a.m. today.

The front door was forced open and it appears an individual slept in the bed and used the shower. Nothing appears to be missing. It is being investigated a as burglary.

Jail time for assault:

Robert Michael Sloan, 19, Superior, Wis., was sentenced March 7 in Otter Tail County District Court after earlier pleading guilty to third degree felony assault. On Nov. 11, 2007, he inflicted bodily harm on another, causing various cuts and bruises to the victim’s face, in the alley on the 400 block of West Stanton Avenue.

Sloan was sentenced to 15 months in prison, stayed for five years, with probation up to five years. He will serve 180 days in jail with 118 days for time served. He will pay $200 in restitution and $1,082 in fines and court costs.

Offender fails to register:

Gerald Duane Thompson, 24, Fergus Falls, was sentenced in Otter Tail County District Court March 7 for failure to register as a sex offender. Thompson, who was convicted of a third degree criminal sex charge in September 2002, failed to notify authorities of his new address Dec. 24, 2007, through Jan. 11, 2008.

Thompson was sentenced to 16 months in prison, stayed for five years, and up to five years probation.

He will serve 90 days in Otter Tail County Jail, with 57 days credit. He will pay $582 in fines and court costs.
