Retro Weekend set for March 28-30

A two-decade flashback of fun is what the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce has in mind when it hosts Retro Weekend March 28-30.
“The Chamber did a totally ‘80s weekend last year,” said Chamber Executive Director Lisa Workman. “People had fun, so we thought we’d make a whole weekend of events for this in between time of year when there’s not a lot going on.”
Highlights of the weekend include:
• Come dressed in your funkadelic best for “That ‘70s Dance,” Saturday, March 29, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the VFW. There will be a costume contest at 10 p.m.
Tickets are available in advance for $8 at the Chamber office, the AmericInn, or from a Retro Committee member. Tickets can be purchased on-line for $9 at www.retro.thingstodoinfergus.com (they are more expensive on-line due to handling charges, Workman said), or for $10 at the door.
“If people are looking for costume ideas,” Workman said, “look up ‘70s’ on the internet. Or go to our local thrift stores.”
• Boogie Bingo Friday through Sunday. A Bingo card can be obtained free of charge from one of any of 24 participating businesses. Participants get their cards stamped at participating businesses. Each business will provide a prize worth at least $24, Workman said.
“It could be hoop earrings, gift cards, collectibles. Each store has to have ‘70s-themed deals. That was a requirement to participate.”

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
