Center Saturdays off and running

Have you heard about our Center Saturdays yet? We’ve casually started promoting one Saturday a month as an event and dinner opportunity.
Last month Union Café catered a meal in conjunction with Frostbite Follies. This month we’re working with Barringer’s Coffee House to provide a light meal before The Biddies at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
We’d love to grow this Saturday idea into something communitywide, but for now we’re focusing on downtown Fergus Falls.
Tickets are on sale for The Biddies: Eccentric Older Women, featuring three amazing voices, including one familiar to our stage, Claudia Schmidt (Kalevala, Gales of November, solo concerts). It’s a great way to celebrate Women’s History Month!
Start with dinner at Barringer’s from 5 to 7 p.m. for $9.95, which includes, soup and sandwich, beverage and dessert. You can pre-purchase tickets for both the concert and dinner at A Center for the Arts and pre-purchase dinner tickets only at Barringer’s. It’s just one more way to keep downtown hopping. Another way is to have other folks using the theater.
Did you know that A Center for the Arts rents out the theater and portions of the Kaddatz Hotel to other parties? This weekend is a perfect example of “mixed users.” On Sunday, the Church of the Nazarene is renting the theater to bring you their drama and musical presentation, “For Such A One As This,” at 3 p.m. Right after their production moves out we’ll be resetting the stage for a showing of the movie, “Diving Bell and The Butterfly,” at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Another example is Monday, at 5:30 p.m. District 544 has an orchestra concert here in our “rush hour” concert format. Then, at 8 p.m. A Center for the Arts presents Piper’s Crow in an evening of Irish music.
The theater is being well used. I think it’s time for new carpeting.
Other examples of people renting the theater include Lorie Line, May 9, and Wade Underwood and the Experience (joined by Radio On), May 10.
And with the wedding season just around the corner we know that’s a possibility as well.
We’re holding a date right now for someone who is considering the theater for their wedding.
People have rented the theater for parties and movies and special workshops and events. It’s quite a versatile space with theatrical and film capabilities.
So, if you’ve got an interest in renting the theater (or the Kaddatz Hotel) for your special family or community event, contact us at 218-736-5453. Or check it out by attending one of these many events — presented by us or others.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
