Cock your ear. Listen carefully. Do you hear whart I hear? The pancakes are coming.
It's time for the Senior Citizens Pancake Feed, so make a note on your calendar for Monday, April 21, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. As usual, there will be sausages to go with the pancakes and, of course, your choice of coffee or milk.
Advance tickets, which may be purchased at the Senior Center or from any board member, are only $5. At the door, the cost for adults is $5.50, children, ages 5 to 10, $2, and the wee ones under age five always eat free.
This is a major fund raiser for the Senior Center and proceeds will benefit our activity fund which supports programs and activities.
P.S. — Yes, there will be music too.
This is a special note to those of you who have recently turned age 55. If you are a Minnesota resident and complete the eight-hour driver improvement class, you are eligible for a ten percent discount on your auto insurance for a three year period.
Community Education is offering the class on April 1 and 3 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Alternative Learning Center. Register and pay the $20 fee at the Community Ed office. Phone 998-0544, Ext. 1600, for more information.
Thanks to everyone who is saving SunMart grocery receipts for the Senior Center. We are moving ahead toward our goal of $150,000 and currently have raised almost $129,000. Another $21,000 and we'll be there. Keep up the good work!
Cell phones have found their place in the lives of many of us but their longevity is not one of their selling points. It's not unusual to exchange the old for the new every two or three years. But what to do with the old ones? Your Senior Center, in cooperation with the National Council on Aging, is participating in a recycling program for old cell phones. We recently received a check for $60 for our activity programing. So next time you upgrade to a new phone, why not drop off the old one at the Center?
A couple of reminders: We could use a few more spellers for our spelling bee next Monday, the 31st at 1 p.m.
In order to receive the 2008 Economic Stimulus Payment, you must file a 2007 Federal Tax Return. Make an appointment with one of our tax counselors at the Senior Center (736-6842).
Much has been said about old age from time to time. Bernard Baruch made this interesting observation: "To me, old age is always 15 years older than I am."

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
