Enforcement campaign on tap:
In order to encourage drivers to be more aware of traffic safety, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department and Fergus Falls Police Department will be working with the State Highway Patrol as part of the continuing enhanced enforcement campaign. Seven days will be selected at random during April to saturate certain areas of Otter Tail County.
“This time of year, with more pedestrians, bike riders and cyclists on the roads, safety awareness is especially important,” said Captain Steve Adams of the Fergus Falls Police Department.
Sheriff Department Lt. Mike Boen said the motto is for drivers to adhere to the philosophy of “their duty to drive with due care.”
In recent days the sheriff’s department has issued several warnings for excess speeds along county roads, including Highways 3, 108, 35, 59 and 210. Warnings also have been issued for people not using headlights in the early morning and late evening. Traffic stop citations and verbal warnings for improper equipment and faulty taillights also have been issued.
Fire extinguished west of Dent:
A fire reported shortly before midnight on Friday, March 28, in some woods near Highway 108 and 300th Avenue, was extinguished by the Dent Fire Department.
A member of the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department reported the fire while driving along Highway 108 west of Dent. The incident was reported to the Dent Fire Department, which responded to the scene, at 11:43 p.m. Friday.
Erratic driving:
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department responded to a complaint or erratic driving along Highway 210 near Foxhome at 1:20 a.m. Friday. The part which issued the complaint said a driver was weaving between both the eastbound and westbound lanes. The investigation is continuing.
