Bredy takes four firsts in Hank Emmel

PELICAN RAPIDS — West Central Area’s Derek Bredy was a quadruple winner Thursday in the Hank Emmel Invite.
Bredy won the 100 and 200 dash events with times of 10.94 and 22.29. He claimed titles in the long and triple jump with leaps of 21-3 and 41-1 3/4.
Perham’s Kurt Weber was a double winner in the hurdles 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 16.84 and 43.74.
Pelican Rapids’ Omar Zavala won the 800 with a 2:11.71. WCA’s Lance Erickson won the shot put with a 43-2 1/2 while New York Mills Brandon Menze took the discus with a 117-4 toss.
Hillcrest’s Cari Jo Hohncke won the long and triple jumps going 14-6 and 21-3 1/2. Hohncke won the meet’s outstanding field athlete award.
Hillcrest’s Rhoda Christenson won the 1,600 with a 5:50.10 and took second behind West Central Area’s Hillary Anderson in the 800. Anderson ran a 2:34.20 while Christenson ran a 2:35.16. The performance gave Christenson Co-Distance Runner honors.
Area girls picking up solo firsts were Kristen Gronbeck of Otter Tail Central, Becca Peloquin, Heather Schultz and Elisa Moenkedick of Perham, Kristi Schaffer of Ashby-Brandon-Evansville and Maria Kunz of Pelican Rapids.
Gronbeck claimed the 3,200 title with a 13:08.18, Peloquin took the 100 hurdles with a 17.04, Schultz won the shot put with a 36-3, Moenkedick captured the discus with a 124-4, Schaffer ran the 300 hurdles in 51.11 and Kunz won the high jump with a 4-8..
ABE’s 4x200 girls’ relay team ran a winning 1:59.21 and Otter Tail Central’s 4x400 girls’ team ran a winning 4:34.21.
Breckenridge/Campbell-Tintah won both the boys and girls’ titles racking up 194 and 94.5 points respectively. Pelican Rapids was second in the boys’ competition with 85 points. Otter Tail Central was second in the girls’ competition with 81 points.
