Otters split twinbill with Flyers

LITTLE FALLS — The Fergus Falls Otters split a doubleheader with Little Falls Friday winning the opener 7-5 but losing the nightcap 8-7.

Cristina Masten hit a three-run homer and the Otters collected 15 hits in the opener.

Erika Magnusson and Steph Muxfeldt both collected three hits in the win. Masten, Kara Fisher and Brittany Gagner all had two safeties.

Ariel Waldoch went 3-for-4 in the loss.

Aly Erickson fanned six and did not allow a walk.

The Otters left the bases loaded in the seventh as they bowed to the Flyers in Game 2.

The Otters fell behind 7-0 in the nightcap and a furious rally came up short in the seventh when they left the bases loaded.

Tiff Werre was 4-for-4 in the loss. Magnusson slugged a two-run homer and drove in three runs. Fisher and Masten both collected two hits.

The Otters are now 7-3 heading into game Friday at Moorhead.

The Otters won 12-0 and 6-5 in JV action.

PARKERS PRAIRIE— The Bulldogs took both ends of a doubleheader with the rival Panthers.

Carley Nelson pitched a complete game for the Bulldogs. Nelson held Parkers Prairie to three hits and zero earned runs. Nelson struck out nine and had no walks. Nelson was aggressive on both sides of the ball batting 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Toni Hagen and Kelsey Koep led the teams batting, both going 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Abbey Evavold went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The Bulldogs stay undefeated upping their overall record to 11-0, with a Conference record of 7-0.

Lead batter for the Bulldogs was Jen Severs going 3-for-3 with one RBI. Also chipping in was Kelsey Koep and Abbey Evavold both went 2-for-3 in the game.

Carmen Malmstrom was the opening pitcher and was credited with a win improving her record to 3-0.

BERTHA — The Arrows loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but could not capitalize as they lost for the second time this season.

Amanda Johnson led the Arrows at the plate going 4-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

The Bears turned the tables in the sixth by scoring four times.

“Defensively we were quite as sharp today,” said Ashby head coach Joey Andreasen.

Hawley 14-12, WCA 2-7

BARRETT — Eighth-grader Jessy Noreen picked up a pair of victories as they Nuggets swept the Knights in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference doubleheader.

“Hawley has a nice team,” said WCA head coach Shawn Carlson. “They have a great young pitcher. For an eighth-grader she has fantastic stuff.”

Hillary Johnson went 4-for-7 in the twinbill. Dana Rude came up with three hits while Kayla Miles and Lauren Nelson both collected two safeties.

The Knights are now 4-5 as they prepare to face Morris and Hillcrest at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday in Morris.
