Knights split in Morris tourney

MORRIS — Shawn Carlson’s West Central Area Knights gained a split Saturday in the Morris Softball Tournament.
Taylor Brekke was hung with the loss as Morris edged WCA 5-4 in the first game.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead but the Knights rallied and tied the game in the top of the seventh. A pair of hits helped Morris push the winning run across in the bottom half of the inning.
Brekke went 2-for-4 in the the loss and drove in two runs.
Brekke went head-to-head with Hillcrest star Sam Hanson as the Knights defeated the Comets 6-2.
The Comets, who ripped WCA 12-0 earlier this season, were only able to manage four hits of Brekke.
Paige Sierakowski went 2-for-3, scored three times and drove in three runs.
The Knights are now 5-6 as they prepare to host DGF Tuesday.
