Johnson Furniture on North Broadway was a fixture in Pelican Rapids for many years. As of Jan 1, part of the building now is home to RehabPLUS and Fitness, owned by physical therapists Craig Haugrud and Peter Larson.
The occupational therapist is Robert Dahl. Speech therapy and other programs also are offered.
“We’re a complete fitness center, committed to helping people improve their health through physical activity,” said Gail Fox, office manager. “Our clients appreciate that we offer a variety of exercise equipment and other programs.”
Membership includes unlimited use of exercise equipment, personal instruction on use of the equipment and log sheets to track one’s progress.
When it comes to physical therapy needs, Haugrud and Larson help clients with a wide range of needs.
“Physical therapy can relieve discomfort from tendonitis, sprains and strains and back problems,” Haugrud said. “Peter and I also provide post surgical rehabilitation following knee, hip, shoulder and back surgery.”
Dahl, as occupational therapist, and his assistant, SuzAnne Scheuerman, are qualified to provide therapy for wrist and hand problems such as fractures, Carpal Tunnel and DeQuervain’s.
“We also provide rehabilitation for victims of stroke and other neurological problems,” Dahl said. “Occupational therapy also is available for pediatric patients.”
Equipment at RehabPLUS and Fitness includes treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent bicycles, 13 station Cybex Eagle Circuit and free weights, Fitness classes are held and there are personal training sessions. Future expansion will include lockers and shower facilities.
Exercise hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and may be expanded in the future, depending on demand. Therapy hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
