Man beats woman, leaves her bloodied

Published Tuesday, May 6, 2008

On April 22 a woman laid on the ground behind the New York Mills bowling alley bleeding profusely from her face.

Now a New York Mills man is charged in Otter Tail County District Court for beating the woman and breaking — and possibly chipping a bone in her nose.

Gerald A. Lemon, 45, 406 E. Park St., New York Mills, has been charged with 3rd degree assault for his involvement in an altercation that occurred at his home on April 22.

Court records state that on the evening of April 22 New York Mills police were called to an area behind the bowling area. They found a woman in the grass crying. She had a large amount of blood on her body, shading on her face and was crying too hard to understand, records state.

When police asked if her boyfriend hit her, the woman became hysterical, court records state.

Police were led to the home of Gerald Lemon, who was arrested after the victim told police that Lemon hit and punched her in the nose several times.

According to court records, Lemon said he was emotional because he had just learned he suffered from a serious medical condition.

The victim stated she felt sorry for Lemon and wanted nothing more than to make him a nice dinner and take care of him when she came knocking on his door on the evening of April 23.

But when Lemon answered the door his glasses were accidentally knocked off his face. That upset him, Lemon told police. The two then got in an argument about the victim coming home on time and then he hit her with a closed fist, records state.

Lemon told police he punched the victim several times in the mouth and nose. He admitted to swinging at her several times but did not recall where on her body he made contact.

The victim’s nose was double its normal size, her lips were swollen, and they were split and cut. She was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Lemon was taken to a detox center and accidentially released. A warrant was later issued for his arrest. He was charged in Otter Tail County Court on Monday.
