Barnesville-Rothsay girls place second in 6A true team

WCA's Bredy wins two jumping events

WADENA – The Barnesville-Rothsay girls’ squad placed second in the Section 6A true team Tuesday with 984 points.

The Trojans excelled in the relay events and one of their athletes, Kasey Lewis, finished first and second individually. The Trojans racked up 984 points, second only to Breckenridge/Campbell-Tintah’s 1,001.5.

The Trojans were second in the 4x800 relay with a 10:35.92, third in the 4x100 with a 54.73 and fourth in both the 4x200 and 4x400 with times of 1:5.54 and 4:39.84. The Trojans were the only team to have four relay finishes in the Top Five.

Lewis was first in the 300 hurdles with a 50.87 and second in the long jump with 15-11.25. Teammate Mary Schindler placed third in the pole vault with an 8-6 effort.

Area girls racking up individual championships were West Central Area’s Hillary Anderson in the 1,600 (5:35.95), New York Mills’ Alicia Boe in the 3,200 run (12.11.60), Pelican Rapids’ Kendra Coleman in the100 hurdles (16.02) and West Central Area’s Krystal Lacey in the discus (116-8).

Parkers Prairie’s Crystal Klukken was third in both the 100 and 200 dash events with times of 13.79 and 28.48. West Central Area’s Jen Froemming ran a 1:04.22 in the 400 dash to gain third place.

West Central Area’s Derek Bredy was a force in the boys’ true team competition. Bredy placed in the top three in four events. He won the long and triple jumps with leaps of 22-9 and 44-8.50. Bredy was second in the 200 dash with a 23.27 and third in the 100 dash with an 11.48.

Breckenridge won the boys’ true team title with 1,108.5 points. The Pelican Rapids boys placed fourth in the team scoring with 784.5.

Lance Erickson was Pelican’s top individual finisher with a third place finish of 44-4.25 in the shot put. The Vikes also placed second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:42.43 and third in the 4x800 with a 9:02.03.

Barnesville-Rothsay won the 4x800 relay with a time of 8:52.41, took second in the 4x400 with a 3:42.43 and placed fourth in the 4x100 with a 47.48.

Parkers Prairie’s Collin Hager earned a third place finish in the 800 run with a 2:06.46 while teammate Drew Mesker put the shot 45-5.50 for runner-up honors. The Panthers also ran second in the 4x200 with a time of 1:37.49.

West Central Area’s Dale Haberer went 6-3 in the high jump to take third.
