Arrest made in Whapeton blast

Benjamin Joseph Zachary, 20, Burnsville, was arrested in Wahpeton Wednesday in connection with an explosion at the Fryin’ Pan Restaurant in Wahpeton May 4. According to Wahpeton Police, Zachary is being charged with endangering by fire or explosion after a “works bomb” chemical device exploded in the restaurant’s dining room at 12:30 a.m. Zachary is in custody at the Richland County Corrections Center and faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, a fine of $5,000 or both.
A similar incident that occurred the night before in the hallway of an apartment building remains under investigation.
