County road restrictions to remain until May 19
Published Thursday, May 8, 2008
Otter Tail County, with support from the county Board of Commissioners, will not remove spring weight restrictions until at least Monday, May 19.
“Many of the county road beds, due to cool temperatures and the recent snowstorms, aren’t drying out and regaining strength as quickly as normal,” said Rick West, Otter Tail County engineer.
Minnesota statute gives local authorities such as Otter Tail County, with highways under their jurisdiction, the right to prohibit the operation of vehicles upon any such highway or impose restrictions as to the weight of vehicles. This is allowed when the unit of government determines that such highways, by reason of deterioration, rain, snow, or other climatic conditions, will be seriously damaged or destroyed unless the use of vehicles is prohibited or the permissible weights reduced.
Spring weight restrictions for state roads will remain until Tuesday, May 13.
