Warriors topple Otters in slugfest

Both clubs had their bats working Thursday night as the Brainerd Warriors won a 15-10 slugfest with the Fergus Falls Otters at Legion Field.

The Otters out-hit the Warriors 13-12 but hurt themselves with four errors.

Mark Aho’s club sent 11 men to the plate in the third inning as they scored seven times to take an 8-4 lead.

The two clubs went into the seventh tied at 10-all.

Nathan Smolke, Kyle Crocker and Bronson Shepherd all collected three hits for Brainerd. Smolke drove in three runs.

Derek Hansen, Aaron Link, Matt Duenow, Matt Mithaugen and Andrew Anderson all collected two hits for Fergus. Hansen hit a two-run shot in the third and led the Otters with three RBIs.

The Otters will play two North Dakota clubs, Devils Lake and West Fargo, in the Fargo Tournament Saturday. The first game begins at 1 p.m.

HANCOCK— The Arrows took two from the Owls in a Pheasant Conference doubleheader.

The Arrows rallied from an 8-0 deficit the win Game 1. Collin Ruter drove in Drew Hanson and Tim Evavold with the tying and go ahead runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Brett Hanson picked up the win with five innings of relief work.

Kurt Mickelson went 3-for-3 with two doubles. Mike House had two hits.

In the second game, Ashby jumped out to an early 11-2 lead.

Mickelson pitched six strong innings and picked up his second win of the season. House notched a save to go along with a four-hit game. House also stole three bases.

Evavold also had three steals and scored three runs.

The Arrows are now 4-6 as they prepare to host Bertha-Hewitt Friday at 4:30 p.m.
