State BPW names Pemberton Law firm Employer of the Year

Pemberton Law Firm of Fergus Falls was chosen as the Large Employer of the Year (25 or more employees) by the Minnesota Federation of Business and Professional Women at its state convention on May 3 in Lake Elmo.

Attending from the BPW Fergus Falls organization was Jane Geisinger, Linda Hauge, Karen Howell (of Evansville), Mary Jo Igelstad and Wendy Reiten.

Part of the annual event is the Saturday Awards luncheon, where it was announced that Pemberton Law Firm had been selected as the state Large Employer of the Year. Attorney and partner Kristi Hastings accepted the award on behalf of the firm. BPW Minnesota chooses employers for this annual award based on their commitment to work life issues that affect working women in Minnesota.

“Pemberton Law Firm ... puts employees first,” said BPW/Minnesota Vice President Patty Tanji. “They allow extended leave and provide ‘life coaching’ for their workers.”

Pemberton Law Firm was nominated for this award by BPW Fergus Falls President Kelsey Felstul after the firm won the local organization’s Large Employer of the Year award at its banquet in January.

Pemberton Law Office, with 43 employees, was selected because it actively recruits qualified women attorneys, helps its employees succeed and advance in their careers, and offers incredible flexibility and support for its working women — including providing a quiet lactation room for nursing mothers. One employee wrote in the nomination application, “We have an excellent rate of longevity at the firm and I think that speaks volumes about the firm itself.”

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
