Henning folks should be proud

Published Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Congratulations to Henning for being named a “Governor’s Fit City” and receiving an award from the Governor’s Health Cabinet.

According to a press release I recently received, Henning achieved this designation by completing an application with the Minnesota Dept. of Health. A number of factors were keys to earning the award, and the MDH credited Henning for:

1. Developing a cohesive system of parks and trails, incorporating accessible neighborhood parks.

2. Requiring that neighbo-rhood streets be designed with pedestrians and bicyclists in mind.

3. Supporting recreation programs that encourage active living.

4. Ensuring that physical activities facilities are accessible and affordable.

5. Introducing active living issues, such as walkable communities, into public dialogue.

6. Improving pedestrian and bicyclist safety.

The folks of Henning should be proud of this accomplishment.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.
