Hurricanes open season with 13-inning victory

PERHAM — Nick Lewis and Mike Gaustad combined for seven hits as the Fergus Falls Hurricanes opened their 2008 season with an 8-5 victory over Perham in 13 innings.
The Hurricanes scored five times in the top of the 13th to break open a 3-3 game. Lewis and Gaustad had back-to-back doubles, Tim Erickson was hit by a pitch and consecutive wild pitches scored Gaustad and moved Erickson to third. Matt Brekke then singled. Singles by Jarrod Asmus and Kellen Shebeck loaded the sacks. Conner Kerr’s sacrifice fly scored Brekke and Asmus scored on an error.
Shebeck pitched four innings of no-hit ball to gain the victory. Eric Weller was hung with the loss.
Tyler Doll led Perham with three hits. Andy Kratzke came up with two hits and two RBIs.
The Hurricanes will travel to Pelican Rapids Sunday.
