Rural Ashby has many recreational opportunities
Published Tuesday, May 13, 2008
Ashby offers many community activities and there also are recreational opportunities in the surrounding area.
People from the surrounding area come into town for the "Coots Unlimited" annual banquet in May. There’s a large Ashby Appreciation Days celebration in July with a full day of activities which includes a free lunch provided by area businesses and a large parade and community dance.
A number of resorts, campgrounds and bed and breakfasts welcome visitors all year to the Ashby area. Pelican Lake, just south of Ashby, is one of the largest lakes in the area and is perfect for fishing, sailing, or water-skiing.
Lake Christina, a widely recognized waterfowl lake, has plenty of public hunting areas — providing excitement for hunting enthusiasts.
The newly developed "Country View Estates" has provided the Ashby with 38 new residential lots. Improvements such as water, sewer, storm sewer and streets are in place.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Post a comment
